Emotional trauma due to a birth injury

On Behalf of | Dec 12, 2019 | Injuries

When a birth injury takes place, the physical and financial consequences may be significant and they may be easy to see right away. However, less noticeable hardships, such as depression and other emotional challenges, also often arise in the wake of a birth-related injury. If you were injured while giving birth or you are the parent of a newborn that sustained an injury during childbirth, it is imperative to take into account the emotional side of this devastating problem. Sadly, the emotional side of birth injuries is often overlooked and many parents have had to struggle through unimaginable emotional pain.

Following a birth injury, many parents experience very high levels of anxiety. They may be stressed out about their child’s well-being or the mother’s physical health. Or the injury may bring on significant bills that are very hard to pay. Aside from stress, many people also experience depression after a birth injury. Unfortunately, things do not always go as planned, and a careless medical professional can shatter the emotional stability of every member of a family.

Sometimes, parents even become very angry as a result of an injury that occurs during birth. This is an understandable reaction, especially when a negligent medical professional is responsible for hardships that were completely preventable. It is important for parents working through these difficulties to do what they can to recover in terms of their emotions. Filing a lawsuit against a medical professional who is responsible for these challenges is one way that many parents have been able to lessen their anxiety and look toward a brighter future.
