Staff turnover rates can impact patient care

On Behalf of | Sep 22, 2021 | Firm News

The staff members at hospitals must ensure that their patients are being cared for properly. While many of them do this, there are times when understaffing or inexperienced staff members might not provide the care patients need.

Negligence in hospitals can lead to serious patient harm. The patients shouldn’t have to deal with that type of problem, so hospitals must ensure that they always have the staff on hand to accommodate the medical needs of the patients in their care.

New staff member training

New staff members who have direct contact with patients should undergo training that ensures they know how to provide the proper care. It’s a good idea to have them work with an experienced employee who can monitor them and show them the ins and outs.

The patients who are being cared for by them should still receive impeccable care. There should always be someone, such as a patient care advocate, who the patients can contact if the care team is neglectful.

Adequate staffing

Hospitals must have adequate staffing for all patient care areas. Balancing shifts is often a challenging task. While hospital administrators might want to ensure that they aren’t overstaffing, they must not cut shifts so much that it negatively impacts patient care.

Anyone who is harmed because of inexperienced staff members or understaffing should determine what legal options they have. They might opt to pursue a claim for medical malpractice if negligence by the staff led to them suffering injury or harm. Because of time limits imposed by law, you should act swiftly if you’re considering legal action for this type of case.
